Unisa VC amongst special guests invited to the St Engenas ZCC 2024 Easter pilgrimage
The Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Unisa, Prof Puleng LenkaBula, was part of a collective of eminent and national leaders of South Africa who were special guests of His Grace Bishop Dr Joseph Engenas Lekganyane at the 2024 Easter pilgrimage of the St Engenas Zion Christian Church.
Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Prof Puleng LenkaBula, President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, His Grace Bishop Dr Joseph Engenas Lekganyane and other dignitaries convene for a pre-prayer briefing.
The delegation, led by the President of South Africa, His Excellency Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, also included members of cabinet such as the Minister of Home Affairs, the Honourable Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and the Minister of Electricity, the Honourable Dr Sputla Ramokgopa, amongst others. The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, the Honourable Julius Malema, was also amongst the guests.

The annual Easter pilgrimage to Moria is a long-standing tradition where millions of ZCC pilgrims from across South Africa and the African continent gather at the church’s headquarters in Moria, outside Polokwane in Limpopo, to worship and pray. This year’s gathering was the first since 2019, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
Beyond campus walls
LenkaBula has been committed to repositioning Unisa as a relatable university that goes beyond campus walls to enrich communities academically and socially. In this regard, Unisa has been playing a pivotal role within local communities. This involves forging alliances with community organisations, governmental entities, businesses and faith-based organisations. Alliances like these are instrumental in addressing shared objectives and challenges, pooling resources and leveraging collective expertise. By fostering these partnerships, LenkaBula aims to position Unisa as a dynamic platform engaged with communities for exchanging knowledge, resources and skills. Unisa is a rooted university that promotes engaged scholarship with social impact.
