Unisa Enterprise celebrates Mandela Day at orphanage in Tembisa

Unisa Enterprise commemorates Mandela Day at the Bulamahlo Home and Day Care Centre

In June 1995, former President Nelson Mandela made an important statement about children. "Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people."

Inspired by Madiba’s words, the Unisa Enterprise (UE) commemorated Mandela Day at Bulamahlo Home and Day Care Centre in Tembisa.

The centre, opened in 1989 by Regina Sekgobela, cares for abandoned, orphaned and abused children. It currently accommodates 34 children, most of whom were brought to the home by the local police after being abandoned.

As part of the #WeCare initiative, UE Chairperson Lesetsa Matshekga led a team of staff members to hand over necessities to the beneficiaries of the home. The #WeCare initiative reinforces and demonstrates one of UE’s fundamental values – compassion.

As part of its corporate social responsibilities, UE has also adopted Bulamahlo as its beneficiary and will assist the home’s management to ensure the betterment of the children’s lives. Matshekga said the enterprise, working with its partners, would continue to support the home. Sekgobela and her son, who helps her run the orphanage, expressed their gratitude to the UE.
