| Purpose: The purpose of this module is to enable students to develop competencies and skills in understanding
the impact of civil engineering activities on the natural environment, as well as the legislative context and
the science that underpins environmental systems, which must be protected from anthropogenic impacts.
This module seeks to promote environmental responsibility, a precautionary approach to development and
encourages students to incorporate environmentally friendly technologies into the design, development and
operation of civil engineering projects in line with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) principles.
