Purpose: The target students for this module are BA honours students registered for any of the following disciplines African Politics, International Politics and Politics as well as any other related disciplines This module provides an overview of the systems of governance and rule in African states and how they were underpinned and influenced colonialism. It reviews the effects and current trajectories of how regime formation and implementation has occurred in African states. The main purpose of the module is to enable students to describe some of the concepts, theories, demonstrate an understanding to the types of regimes in African States and their historical context. The module will also review formidable African leaders, regime formation and the various leadership styles as well as the trajectories of their social and political struggles for recognition and representation within societies. The theoretical component of the module will be applied in relation to thematic discussions of contemporary concerns and recent research with use of specific case studies. |
