| Purpose: The purpose of this module is to enhance studentsﾒ understanding of basic language concepts as they apply to Afrikaans phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. This module covers the basic knowledge and skillset crucial to linguists, language practitioners and language teachers on the one hand, and communication pathologists, computer scientists and legal practitioners on the other. Furthermore, this module contributes towards the language landscape of South Africa in the sense that it promotes multilingualism. This enhances the efforts in advancing literacy levels and aiding access to information in various spheres of South African society. |
