This module aims to equip students with the expertise necessary for teaching and researching Agricultural Science, Technology, and Management in FET by developing knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes. Integrate and apply this knowledge alongside competencies from other modules, including Instructional Studies, Curriculum Development, and Classroom Management, to enhance teaching abilities and prepare for the role of a classroom teacher/researcher in diverse South African educational settings, emphasizing foundational, practical, and reflexive competences in facilitating the teaching and learning of Agricultural Sciences, Technology, and Management.
This module seeks to imbue students with an understanding of environmental stewardship, humane treatment of animals, and sustainable resource utilization within the realm of education and technology applications. It fosters problem-solving skills tailored to educational contexts, encourages personal development in educational enterprises, and underscores the importance of informed citizenship, responsible educational practices, and an appreciation of indigenous knowledge within historical and social frameworks.
Students will develop an understanding of the societal relevance of Agricultural Technology, including the ability to identify and address technological challenges in an educational context through critical and creative thinking, effective communication in Agricultural Technology, and responsible organization and management of educational activities that involve the collection, analysis, and presentation of information.
In the realm of teacher education, students will develop an understanding of how Agricultural Management Practices contribute to societal well-being by promoting human rights, economic growth, and sustainability. This involves instilling in educators a positive attitude toward rural lifestyles, imparting the skills needed for effective farm management, and fostering the discipline required for organized farming enterprises. Teachers will be equipped with the ability to responsibly organize educational activities and effectively analyze, critically evaluate, and present agricultural information, empowering them to integrate these principles and skills into their research and/or teaching practices. |
