Purpose: Students who complete this module will have knowledge of the diversity of life and will be able to identify and distinguish various animal species. The module will provide them with an overview of the large variety of chordate animals and how they evolved from ancestral representatives, and explain how intricately linked and interrelated all living creatures on earth are. Students will be able to relate this knowledge to key processes of morphology, classification, adaptation and phylogeny of the various animal taxa. Finally, the module will introduce some of the major fields of biodiversity and ecology that describe ways in which animals functionally interact with other organisms and with their environment.
