Purpose: The purpose of the module is to equip student teachers with knowledge and skills needed in being a teacher. Student teachers are taken through a series of scenarios from diverse educational settings to prepare them for effective teaching in the South African as well as global context. The module provides student teachers with both theoretical and practical considerations so that they are able to inspire, motivate, and empower their learners to become lifelong learners. The module educates student teachers about the importance of being reflective practitioners and it also takes them through strategies they can employ to become caring professionals. Students are also exposed to different educational theories with an intention that they understand the role played by different theories in education and thus become educational theorists. The module also equips student teachers with skills and knowledge pertaining to their roles as curriculum interpreters, designers, and implementers. Assessment is an important component of learning and teaching is covered and student are taken through various types of assessment and how to apply them in different classroom setting. Inclusivity and entrepreneurial aspects of being a teacher are also dealt with at length in this module.
