Purpose: The purpose of this module is to give students an appreciation of the various design decisions and the key steps involved in carrying out a process design. Students will learn how to prepare and present process flow diagrams and other necessary documentation necessary for design. Students will learn to select, size and estimate the cost of typical chemical engineering equipment. Students will also learn how to estimate the capital and operating costs of the plant and will also be introduced to methods used for economic evaluation of projects. Students will also be made aware of the environmental issues and safety aspects related to the design of processes. This module is part of the Diploma in Chemical Engineering.
