Purpose: The purpose of the module is to introduce learners to the field of study of child and adolescent development within a multicultural context and basic academic and theoretical information about child development from conception up to and including adolescence. Against this background, the module will further acquaint learners with the impact of various family dynamics that are prominent amongst the multicultural South African context which often affect the development of children (e.g. homelessness, child headed households, single parent homes, inequality, poverty and unemployment).
