Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the complex social dynamics that exist within correctional facilities. The module will explore the impact of power dynamics, social identity, and group behavior on individual and groups within correctional environments. Through engagement with case studies, students will develop an indepth understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by the social dynamics of correctional facilities. They will identify and address issues such as violence, gang activity, and social isolation, and promote positive social connections, support, and rehabilitation within the correctional environment. Upon completion of the module, students will be able to understand the social dynamics of correctional facilities, develop strategies for promoting positive social behaviour, and contribute to the development of safe and supportive correctional environments.
