Purpose: This qualification is primarily vocational, or industry oriented, characterised by the knowledge emphasis, general principles in electronics and application of Electrical Engineering technology transfer. The module provides students with a sound knowledge in a sub-field of Telecommunications. Students will focus on the following topics: Overview of digital signal processing, Overview of signals and systems, Transforms, Convolution and correlation, Analogue filter design, Digital filtering, State variables, Digital signal processors and applications.
This module will enable students to apply their knowledge and skills to the field of Electronics and Electronics Design, Power Electronics and Telecommunications.
The specific purpose of Digital Signal Processing is designed to build the necessary knowledge, understanding, abilities and skills required towards becoming a competent practicing Professional Engineering Technician. This module provides the following information to students:
1.Knowledge on the following topics: Overview of digital signal processing, Overview of signals and systems, Transforms, Convolution and correlation, Analogue filter design, Digital filtering, State variables, Digital signal processors and applications.
2.Educational base required for registration as a Candidate and/or a Professional Engineering Technician with ECSA (Refer to qualification rules).
3.Entry to programmes such as Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering technology Honours Degree programmes.
4.Entry to an Advanced Diploma upon successful completion of a work-integrated learning component, or a combination of work-integrated learning and coursework, equivalent to at least 30 credits but not to exceed 120 credits.
Engineering students completing this qualification will demonstrate competence in all the Exit Level Outcomes contained in this module.
This module is compulsory and core for the Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
