Purpose: This module forms part of the BSc degree in Biotechnology and provides students with the fundamental knowledge of using biotechnological methods to protect and improve our environment and improve the quality of life for all South Africans. Students credited with this module will be able to apply scientific and engineering principles of microbiological treatment technologies to clean up contaminated environments and to generate valuable resources for the human society. They will also be able to assist in managing water and other waste treatment plants.
