Industrial Engineering Design Project - IDP4801

Honours Year module NQF level: 8 Credits: 36
Module presented in English
Purpose: The module will enable students to develop competencies in applying mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of systems and processes in industry. The module serves as a capstone module, where students will rigorously apply all industrial engineering principles they have learnt in previous modules to the synthesis and analysis of a process present in any sphere of industry. The student will need to do research and formulate a process optimisation problem as found in industry and perform a complete analysis of the affected process. The student must illustrate the ability to perform an analysis of the process by illustrating an understanding of the interrelationship between different processes. Students will also be required to perform a detailed economic evaluation of the proposed new or improved process being. The application of proper techniques for academic report writing is needed in order to present and discuss their design.
