| Purpose: The module serves as a capstone module, where students will rigorously apply all mechanical engineering principles they have learnt in previous modules to provide design solutions to ill-defined and complex mechanical engineering problems. The students must demonstrate an understanding of the engineering design methodology in which they are able perform problem definition, concept generation, design embodiment, design testing and design communication and marketing. The students will also be required to perform a detailed economic evaluation of the proposed new or improved process they are proposing. The students will then need to apply techniques of proper academic report writing to present and discuss their design.
The module forms part of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. This module will enable students to develop competencies in applying mathematical and scientific principles to the design and development of mechanical engineering system.
