Mechanics of Composite Materials - MCM4801

Honours Year module NQF level: 8 Credits: 12
Module presented in English Module presented online
Purpose: The purpose of this module is to introduce students to aspects of design and analysis work involving composite components whose stress/strain mechanical properties are controlled by high strength/stiffness continuous fibres within a polymeric, metal or ceramic matrix. A mixture of analytical and numerical skills towards the intended purpose of the course will encompass the micromechanics of fibre reinforced composites, the stress/strain analysis of orthotropic materials and laminated composites, the failure analysis of laminated composites, and the design of composite components.
