Purpose: The purpose of the module is to equip learners with (i) a theoretical knowledge of the meaning and nature of new media technology as mass communication, (ii) critical attitudes and skills to analyse theories explaining the role of new media in the public sphere and business and the impact of new media on culture and language, (ii) skills to use new media for interpersonal communication, knowledge management and bridging the digital and information divides, (iii) skills to formulate and analyse information and communication technology (ICT) policy at national and global level, and use new media for the purposes of product marketing, electronic government (e-government) and community development.
