Purpose: The primary purpose is for students to understand and apply the techniques and management decisions at operational and tactical level of service and manufacturing industries, resulting in improved productivity and the standard of living. A typical role could be that of an operations managers or supervisors, even for those who do not constantly perform managerial activities. The application of all techniques and strategies will enable the students to manage the systems and processes for creating products and services needed by the organisation. The techniques and strategies taught in the module are the following: productivity management; forecasting techniques and methods; product and service design; capacity planning and decision theory; process selection; work design and measurement as well as location design needed to enable operations managers and supervisors to produce the organisation's products and services.
