Purpose: The purpose of this course is to provide technologists (the target group for this course) with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan and maintain optical fibre communication links, investigate problems and come up with optimum solutions. The contents, study objectives and outcomes of this course strongly complement the other advance diploma subjects for tuition in electronics and telecommunications (Electronics 3, Radio Engineering 3, Microwave Engineering 3 and microelectronic 3).It however deals with the specific technology of opto-electronic telecommunications. Some of the communication, signal processing and mathematical concepts especially with respect to signals and waves may overlap with the contents of other courses.
