Purpose: The primary purpose of this module is to equip students with graduate-level knowledge, specific skills, applied competence and insight into patent and copyright law. Furthermore, the module ensures that the leadership base of innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly activity in patent and copyright law is broadened. Both the South African and the global community will be provided with lawyers who are empowered to accept their responsibility to use and develop the patent and copyright law systems towards the realization of a just society based on constitutional democracy within a world legal order.
Students will be able to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired through this module when practicing as attorneys or advocates, legal advisors, patent examiners, magistrates, judges, mediators and arbitrators, etc.
