Purpose: To enable students to explain and apply concepts of physical chemistry and demonstrate their understanding of the laws of thermodynamics and changes of state. These concepts include properties of gases, the first law of thermodynamics, thermochemistry, state functions and exact differentials, adiabatic changes, the second and third laws of thermodynamics, energies of a system, the physical transformations of pure substances and simple mixtures.
