Purpose: The module focusses on the economic theories that underpin the railway and pipeline industries. The scope of the module includes the evolution and current state of rail transport in South Africa; passenger rail services; freight rail services; high-speed rail services; market regulations of the railway sector; railway infrastructure design; unbundling state-owned rail companies; freight safety and signaling; the economics of pipeline transport; and the scope for pipeline transport services in South Africa. The theory is supplemented with informative articles from industry leaders, case studies, and South African specific analysis to ensure all of the various learning outcomes are also application orientated. |
