Purpose: The purpose of this module is to equip students with a sound knowledge of and insight into Internet law with specific reference to certain private and criminal law aspects of Internet law and basic research skills in the practice of law.
Students will deal with freedom of speech on the internet, including the legal aspects relating to defamation, hate speech and pornography, as well as the legal principles surrounding invasion of privacy, data protection, cybercrime and the evidential aspects relating to the Internet.
Another purpose of this module is to provide the South African and the global community with lawyers empowered to deal with the challenges of Internet law in an equitable way and who are equipped to accept their responsibility towards the realization of a just and inclusive society based on constitutional democracy within a world legal order.
