Purpose: To provide a critical exploration of Shakespeare's dramatic art. The student is guided through the study of a number of plays which hold particular significance in terms of aesthetic value and as challenges to accepted views on familiar themes (such as power, death, love, friendship and otherness). To appropriate strategies for reading selected plays by Shakespeare; Appropriate critical and analytical skills for a discussion of selected plays; The ability to formulate their responses to the plays in logically structured essays written in sound academic English.
