Purpose: Of this module is designed for those who complete the level of beginners (MAN1501), have mastered the Pinyin (Chinese Phonetic Alphabet) or have basic Chinese language skills to further develop their Chinese proficiency in terms of linguistic knowledge, linguistic skills, learning strategies and cultural awareness.1

The students at this level should reach the following specific purposes in terms of
listening: understanding basic, familiar and well-pronounced words, as well as simple sentences concerning daily activities;
speaking: repeating, retelling and reciting words and sentences in proper tones, as well as responding to simple greetings, instructions and commands;
reading: recognising the Pinyin, simple characters and words, as well as numbers concerning daily activities;
writing: writing basic characters with correct stroke order, as well as simple phrases and sentences in Pinyin;
strategies: mastering basic learning strategies, communicative strategies, resources strategies and interdisciplinary strategies; and cultural awareness: gaining basic Chinese cultural knowledge and cross-cultural awareness in the global context.
