Purpose: The purpose of this module is to empower students to comprehend the processes, structures and frameworks affecting and driving economic development in South Africa so that they will be able to critically analyze explain and evaluate economic development in South Africa within a global South African and sustainability context. Students will furthermore be exposed to various economic development approaches and philosophies including present and future sustainable local economic development scenarios that will contribute to the reduction of poverty and inequality in South Africa.
