Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for field crop production. Students who achieve this module will demonstrate an understanding of the field crop industry in South Africa and qualifying students will be familiar with botanical classification and basic morphology as well as field management and cultivation practices for the major field crops in South Africa. The purpose of this module is therefore to familiarise students with the major field crops and to enable them to apply appropriate practices in field crop production. Students who complete this module will be able to interpret, discuss and evaluate important agronomic practices as well as modern technologies and concepts for sustainable agriculture, and apply this knowledge to enhance crop productivity of cereal, industrial and legume crops with specific reference to the South African environment. |
