Study of Organisations and the Public Sector - PUB4863

Purpose: Students will acquire a comprehensive and systematic knowledge base of organisational studies in the public sector. Students will also be able to engage with various theories of organisation which includes the politics-administration dichotomy, the attributes of open and closed organisations, Max Weber's bureaucracy, humanism, and contemporary forms of public administration such as New Public Management and the New Public Service. Students will be able to indicate how these theories could be applied to resolve current complex organisational deficiencies in the public service. In addition, students will be able to identify root causes of public service inefficiencies contributing to poor public service delivery and suggest organisational remedies to resolve these root causes.
