Purpose: This is a work integrated learning module undertaken in a work environment whose aim is to familiarise the student with the world of work, duties of an industrial engineering technician, organisational products, services, processes and procedures, identification of process and productivity problems and problem solving of clearly defined problems using industrial engineering and other relevant tools. This training provides students with an opportunity to apply their technical knowledge to relevant problem situations in industry, and to gain exposure to typical organizational culture, human relations and working conditions, good ethical conduct while conducting routine tasks and various justifiable experimental and research studies and projects as well as working in a team or independently.
