Purpose: Work-directed industry based Electrical Engineering Project refers to an industry based engineering project where the students will try to solve industry based problems.
This training provides students with an opportunity to apply their technical knowledge to relevant problem situations in industry, and to gain exposure to typical organizational culture, human relations and working conditions.
With suitable guidance and supervision, the students will be taught to work independently and to develop an awareness of the ethics and requirements of industry.
Where necessary experimental laboratory work will be conducted in the electrical engineering laboratories on Florida campus.

Project Management and Engineering Economics - PME3701 |
Advanced Diploma |
Year module |
NQF level: 7 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: The subject of economics has much to do with the optimal utilisation of scarce resources Engineering involves the cost-effective utilisation of technological and scientific knowledge and skills to benefit humankind. If solutions to engineering problems are not cost effective, it has little use for society in general. The purpose of this module is to introduce engineering students to the business, management and economics environments and to expose them to the major concepts and techniques of engineering economics. This module will be useful to students as well as technical people such as engineers, technologists, scientists and technicians who want to undertake more advanced studies or research that are of a techno-economic nature. |
Robotics - RBT4801 |
Honours |
Year module |
NQF level: 8 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: The objective of this module is to use a hands-on approach to introduce the basic concepts in Robotics. The course focuses on mobile robots and illustrations of their current state of art research and applications. Course theory will be coupled with lab demos. The course will illustrate the importance of integrating sensors, actuators and control, basic control law, the key approaches to mobile robot control (reactive, behaviour-based, and hybrid), kinematics, differential motion, force and briefly discuss robot learning and multi-robot systems. |
Electrical Engineering I - EEA1501 |
Diploma |
Year module |
NQF level: 5 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: The purpose of this module is:
To develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills required for learner's further learning towards becoming a competent Engineering Technician.
It is intended to subsequently empower Engineering Technicians to demonstrate that they are capable of applying their acquired knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values in the engineering working environment.
To enable students to develop competencies and skills in solving problems for Direct Current electrical, magnetic, inductive and capacitive circuits. The students will be able perform calculations with respect to the different components in a direct current circuit and will also be able to discuss and design basic electrical control circuits.
This module is compulsory and core for the National Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Successful completion of this module will allow students' entry to Electrical Engineering II and Electrical Machines II modules.
Potential articulation possibilities when successfully completed the module.

Differential Equations (Engineering) - APM3700 |
Advanced Diploma |
Year module |
NQF level: 7 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: Students completing this module will be able to solve first-order ordinary differential equations and second order ordinary differential equations using the method of undetermined coefficients, solve any order differential equations using d-operators and Laplace transforms, to find the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a matrix and write the Fourier series of a function. This module will assist students to develop their mathematical knowledge and analytical skills to support and advance their studies in the field of engineering. |
Advanced Protection Technology - APT4801 |
Honours |
Year module |
NQF level: 8 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: The module provides students with a sound knowledge in a sub-field of power system. Engineering students completing this qualification will demonstrate competence in all the Exit Level Outcomes contained in this module. |
Optoelectronics IV - EOE4801 |
Honours |
Year module |
NQF level: 8 |
Credits: 12 |
Module presented in English |
Module presented online |
Purpose: The purpose of this course is to provide technologists (the target group for this course) with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan and maintain optical fibre communication links, investigate problems and come up with optimum solutions.
The contents, study objectives and outcomes of this course strongly complement the other advance diploma subjects for tuition in electronics and telecommunications (Electronics 3, Radio Engineering 3, Microwave Engineering 3 and microelectronic 3).It however deals with the specific technology of opto-electronic telecommunications. Some of the communication, signal processing and mathematical concepts especially with respect to signals and waves may overlap with the contents of other courses.
