Purpose: The purpose of this module is to assist students understand the importance of globalisation in shaping social, economic, cultural and political changes in contemporary South African society. Facilitate students' awareness of the principal dynamics in the historical evolution of South African society leading up to the political transition in 1994. Introduce students to a range of macro-economic policy frameworks adopted by government and their effects on the lives of ordinary South Africans since 1994 to the present. Provide students an opportunity to become familiar with various social groups that are responding to the effects of globalisation on social change in South Africa, with selected case studies on educational struggles such as fees-must-fall. Assist students to appreciate the decolonial thought and approach to comprehending globalisation and debates of the concept.
