The Directorate Music offers music examinations accredited as Short Learning Programmes through a network of 1500 teachers endorsed by Unisa, as well as assessments and scholarship competitions to enhance music development at primary, secondary and tertiary levels within Southern Africa.
In 2014 the graded music examinations of Unisa were ratified as Short Learning Programmes (SLPs). Practical Music examination candidates between the ages of 5 and 75 are examined in over 70 centres each year. The theory of music examinations are written by approximately 7000 students at approximately 140 examination centres throughout the country and abroad.
Unisa offers a wide range of music examinations and assessments in the Western Art Music and Jazz genres. For the graded examinations the highest qualification attainable is the Grade 8 practical and Theory of Music certificate. For assessments, the highest qualification is the Performer’s assessment.
