Unisa alumni unite to boost graduate employability

On 11 March 2023, Unisa hosted an alumni event at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Cape Town. The event brought together alumni from various professions and walks of life, who were keen to catch up with old acquaintances, share their experiences and learn from one another.

The highly successful event was attended by Unisa alumni and staff

One of the highlights of the event was the introduction of the newly elected convenor of the Cape Town Chapter, Sifundo Ndzube. Ndzube has identified a number of key deliverables for the chapter for 2023 and beyond, with his biggest priority being to address the employability of graduates.

To achieve this, the chapter has partnered with the Western Cape Regional Office and the Alumni Relations Office to host a workshop that will address issues such as CV writing, interview etiquette and alumni presence on social media. This workshop aims to equip alumni with the necessary skills and tools to improve their employability prospects in today's competitive job market.

The response from alumni was overwhelmingly positive, with many indicating their interest in getting involved and sharing their expertise at the workshop. This demonstrates the willingness of Unisa alumni to support one another and give back to the university that played a significant role in their personal and professional development.

The Acting Regional Director, Michelle Frauendorf, also addressed the attendees during the event, inviting them to participate in the upcoming 150-year celebrations of the university. This event promises to be a significant milestone for Unisa, and it presents an excellent opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and reflect on their journey since graduation.

Overall, the Unisa alumni event was a resounding success, strengthening the alumni network in the Western Cape and showcasing the passion and dedication of Unisa graduates in making a positive impact on their communities and beyond. It is testament to the enduring legacy of Unisa and its commitment to producing graduates who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their chosen fields.
