First-Year Experience Massive Open Online Course

For many students, the transition to the Unisa study environment is a big and difficult step. To facilitate your first-year journey, Unisa's Student Retention Unit (SRU) has created the First-Year Experience Massive Open Online Course (FYE MOOC), an instrument that orientates and prepares first-time entering students to successfully undertake their studies at Unisa.

All first-time Unisa applicants must complete the First-Year Experience MOOC. Remember to use your Unisa student number as your user ID when registering  on the MOOC platform.

You will ONLY be able to accept Unisa's offer for the 2024 academic year once you have completed UOL009-FYE101_2024 (FYE MOOC).

Please follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Go to https://mooc.unisa.ac.za/portal
  2. Click on "New Account". Under user ID, use your Unisa student number to successfully register.
  3. Once you are signed in, click on "Membership" and then on “Joinable Sites” to view the list of sites.
  4. Click on the "Join" link for the UOL009-FYE101_2024 to access the FYE MOOC.
  5. Then click on "My Current Sites" and then on UOL009-FYE101_2024.
  6. Read the Overview page and continue with the MOOC.
  7. Make sure you complete ALL the self-assessment and activities.
  8. Once you have completed UOL009-FYE101_2024, you will need to wait for five (5) minutes before you can accept your study offer.
