Unisa’s Gauteng Region Counselling and Career Development Unit, in partnership with the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES), recently hosted an engaging career expo at the Science Campus in Florida. This event aimed to introduce students and learners from nearby schools to a wide range of qualifications and career paths within the fields of agriculture and environmental sciences.
Participants had the opportunity to interact with representatives from different departments within CAES and also AgriSETA, gaining valuable insights into available career paths. They also learned about the essential skill sets, knowledge and attitudes required for lifelong career development in these fields.
Gloria Sephula, the lead organiser from the Gauteng Region Counselling and Career Development Unit, declared the event a success. She highlighted the strong support demonstrated by the participating departments and reported enthusiastic feedback from learners. "The learners were excited and eager to learn more about the career options," she said, noting that the tours of the horticulture centre and the robotics unit were particularly popular. "Going forward, we wish to invite more schools as we have identified a significant need for this type of exposure," she said.
