More recently, chemical engineers are increasingly involved in the design of new products enabled by emerging process technologies. Chemical engineering begins with experimentation in the laboratory and follows with implementation of the technology to full-scale production

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Chemical & Materials Engineering Department at the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Unisa. Chemical Engineers focus primarily on designing, operating, and managing processing systems to convert raw materials into products that are more useful and valuable to society. In the design and operation of these facilities, two key concerns typically prevail: minimizing costs and reducing environmental impact. Therefore, Chemical Engineers play a key role in the conservation and protection of the environment.
