It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Chemical & Materials Engineering Department at the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Unisa. As we begin this educational journey together, I am excited about the transformative experiences and valuable knowledge that await us. Chemical Engineers focus primarily on designing, operating, and managing processing systems to convert raw materials into products that are more useful and valuable to society. In the design and operation of these facilities, two key concerns typically prevail: minimizing costs and reducing environmental impact. Therefore, Chemical Engineers play a key role in the conservation and protection of the environment.

The Chemical & Materials Engineering Department provides a variety of academic programs tailored to the diverse desires, needs, and aspirations of our students. Whether you're pursuing a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours Degree, Master of Engineering, or Ph.D. in Engineering, you've chosen a path that will empower you to make significant contributions to both the nation and society. Our programs are accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), ensuring that our graduates are recognized both locally and internationally.

In our effort to offer you a comprehensive learning journey, the Diploma in Chemical Engineering and Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program. This valuable opportunity lets you apply your theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, acquire practical skills, and enhance your professional abilities. By connecting academic learning with practical experience, it prepares you to make informed career decisions and transition smoothly into the workforce.

Our prominent academic team brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and passion to enhance your learning journey. Their diverse perspectives will expose you to the latest industry trends, preparing you for the dynamic demands of your chosen field.
