The Mechanical Engineering Department is one of six departments in the Unisa School of Engineering which falls under the auspices of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Mechanical Engineers are equipped to be both creative and innovative within the various diverse environments they may find themselves in. In this digital era, our mechanical engineering graduates are well equipped to use both their technical and entrepreneurial skills to meet current and future developmental societal needs. So,
- Are you a person with an aptitude for mathematics and science that also enjoys working with people?
- Do you have an analytical mind, and do you enjoy exploring possible improvements to existing systems coupled with the ability for creative and practical work?
Mechanical engineering is for you. This discipline is concerned with the analysis, design, manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. It draws upon specialized knowledge, technics and skills in the mathematical, physical, natural and social sciences. These sciences combined with engineering principles allow our graduates to work in diverse and exciting areas such as: Aviation, Biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence(4IR), robotics, automotive, military, nuclear, marine, space sciences and financial sector.
