During his speech, Nkuhlu underscored the essence of purposeful leadership, emphasising that true leadership goes beyond economic growth and prioritises the upliftment of communities and the empowerment of individuals. He also argued for the necessity of education in governance, asserting that those lacking a solid educational foundation should not hold significant roles in leadership, from the national level to local governance.

In his book, Nkuhlu explores Africa’s challenging journey since independence, reflecting on both the promises made and the hurdles encountered. Drawing on his extensive academic experience and his instrumental role in South Africa’s liberation and economic development, he advocates the leveraging of Africa's rich heritage to overcome underdevelopment and to thrive as a global production powerhouse in the 21st century.
The evening was a success and attracted a diverse audience, which included Unisa alumni, corporate stakeholders and municipal officials. The event concluded with a book-signing session, allowing attendees to engage with Nkuhlu. Many individuals left the event feeling inspired and motivated to implement the principles of purposeful leadership in their lives and communities
