Calling all young researchers!

Spread the news about your research at FameLab 2020

Doing brilliant scientific research is one thing; being able to talk about it in a way that’s simple, succinct and compelling is a different story altogether. For young, up-and-coming researchers who want the world to know about their work, there’s no better platform than the annual FameLab competition.

FameLab gives each contestant three minutes (and not a second more) to tell the story of their research to a panel of judges. Those who succeed in impressing the panel go through to the semi-finals, and if successful there go on to participate in the SA FameLab National Finals where the winner will participate in the international FameLab finals in London, United Kingdom.

This year is the sixth time that Unisa is hosting the regional heat of FameLab, which is open to all young researchers aged 21 and 35 who are registered, studying or working in science, engineering, technology or mathematics in South Africa.

The 2020 regional heat will be held on Thursday, 5 March in the ZK Mathews Great Hall at Unisa’s Muckleneuk Campus from 09:00-15:00, as part of the university’s annual Research & Innovation Week.

Preparatory training will be held on Wednesday, 4 March from 09:00-15:00 in the ZK Mathews Great Hall

The top three presenters of the FameLab Unisa Regional Heat will receive prizes.

If you don’t necessarily want to participate but would still like to attend the event and see great science communication in action entrance is free of charge.

The event is a partnership between the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), the British Council in South Africa and Jive Media, a leading South African science communication agency.

If you would like to enter, please contact Virginia McManus: mcmanva1@unisa.ac.za or Mpho Moloele: moloem@unisa.ac.za
