Rules: This qualification consists of 5 modules. This qualification can be completed in one year. Students choosing to do it over more than one year are advised to register for the Research Report in their final year of study. Students should note that during the course of their studies they would be required to have access to a computer or laptop, printer and the internet. |

Purpose statement: The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with a balanced, integrated overview of the discipline and to enhance their understanding of the fundamental, broad conceptual framework of Information Science and Applied Information Science. The purpose of the programme is further to provide the foundation for lifelong learning, independent study and research aimed at providing solutions to African problems. Aligned to the strategic plan of UNISA to become the African University by shaping futures in the service of humanity, graduates from the programme should ideally be critical thinkers, problem-solvers and game-changers in facing current and future challenges and opportunities pertaining to Information Science in Africa and the world at large. To this end, the main expected outcome of this programme is for students to become fully acquainted with the latest conceptual frameworks, approaches to and models in Information Science, as well as with key research areas in the subject field. Students should develop a holistic awareness of the current state of affairs, explore areas of advanced research and recognise new directions. They should also respond critically to texts and apply substantiated viewpoints related to the individual modules and to the subject field of Information Science in general. |

Each Unisa qualification is structured in such a way that you need to pass a certain number of NQF level credits within a certain amount of time in order to graduate.
Pre-requisite: If Module A is a pre-requisite for Module B, you must pass Module A before you may register for Module B.
You may not register for more than the allowed maximum number of credits / modules per academic year and / or semester: 60 credits per semester or 120 credits per academic year.
The maximum number of credits do not include supplementary and / or aegrotat examinations from a previous semester. Modules taken for non-degree / non-diploma purposes also count towards the maximum number of credits allowed.
