The Unisa Documentation Centre for African Studies was established in 1974 with the aim of collecting historical and contemporary documents concerning the Black, Coloured and Indian communities in southern Africa. Since 1994, the acquisition policy of the Documentation Centre has been broadened to include other groups in southern Africa.
The Documentation Centre promotes and facilitates research in the political, theological, social, economic, cultural and historical fields by collecting and making available unpublished historical and contemporary material.
