The Kwazulu-Natal Region recently commemorated Unisa’s 150th-anniversary at the region’s Autumn graduations and, finally, with a tree planting project at the Pietermaritzburg campus. The project will contribute to the campus’ environmental sustainability and allow students to engage in hands-on learning and research in horticulture, agriculture and sustainable food production. The memorandum of understanding signed by the two Institutions was based on collaboration in several projects, including re-writing the African and African history, cultural heritage, and publishing an online encyclopaedia on the South African history. Read more

As part of celebrating Unisa’s 150 years of existence, the Internationalisation and Partnerships Directorate wants to pay tribute to the positive contributions made by the late Ambassador, Nicolas Bwakira, who joined the University of South Africa in 2002 as the Director of the Africa Directorate until 2007. Among other special highlights of the directorate, was the renewal of the agreement signed by Unisa and the Thomas Edison State University in 2010. The partnership builds on a relationship that was initiated in 2000 and renewed in 2006. Read more

Unisa will host the globally prestigious Times Higher Education on 21 September 2023 on Developing and Enhancing Quality Education in Africa. The event aims to look at Africa's achievements towards meeting the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen the university's framework towards these goals. Read more
