Prof Neo Ramoupi
State and a Mellon Inclusive Professoriate Fellow (2023–2024)

Neo Lekgotla laga Ramoupi, PhD (He/Him/His), is a State and a Mellon Inclusive Professoriate Fellow (2023–2024). Born in Lady Selborne, Pretoria, and raised in Ga-Rankuwa, he began his studies at the University of Bophuthatswana before completing his MA in History at the University of Natal.

He later earned a PhD in African History from Howard University in 2013. A former Researcher and Oral Historian at Robben Island Museum, he previously taught at Wits School of Education. Ramoupi is an award-winning scholar, author of Cultural Resistance on Robben Island, and currently leads Mellon-funded research on the centenary history of the SANNC/ANC and a book on Miriam Makeba’s exile years.
