Professor Zethu Cakata is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Africa, with extensive experience as both academic and researcher at institutions including Statistics South Africa, the University of Pretoria, the Human Sciences Research Council, and the University of the Western Cape.

Her scholarship focuses on African Epistemologies, advocating for indigenous languages as vehicles for knowledge. This advocacy is reflected in her publications such as Safely Nestled in isiXhosa is the Psychology of a People and Ubugqirha: Healing Beyond the Western Gaze.

She received the Association for Black Psychologists Scholarship Award (2019) and the UNISA Scholarship Award (2022). Her recent books include Still to be Named and Azibuye Emasisweni: Reclaiming our Space.
