Professor Puleng LenkaBula
Honourable Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of South Africa
Professor Puleng LenkaBula, a trained feminist ethicist with a doctorate in Social Ethics, is Principal and Vice‑Chancellor of UNISA, the first woman to hold this role in the university’s 148‑year history. Her scholarship explores ethics, economy, ecology, feminist theory, ecological justice, and ubuntu, with extensive publications and student supervision in these areas.
Previously, she served as Deputy VC at the University of the Free State and Dean of Student Affairs at Wits. She has held visiting positions internationally, including Emmanuel College, University of Toronto, and Columbia University. A member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians, she has also served on the executive committee of CODESRIA and as Vice‑President of the South African Council of Churches.
