Professor Siyasanga M. Tyali is a senior academic in media and communication studies with nearly two decades of teaching, research, and leadership experience. He is a Full Professor and Director of the School of Arts at UNISA, having previously served two terms as Chair of the Department of Communication Science.

In these roles, he has overseen planning, budgeting, research, and community engagement. He holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand and an Executive Development Program qualification, alongside credentials from Johns Hopkins University, the University of KwaZulu‑Natal, and the University of Fort Hare.

His expertise spans film regulation, language and media, political communication, and media policy. He has published extensively and contributes to editorial boards and national academic bodies.
